1950's Coach restoration at the South Devon Railway

8th July 2016

In April we were contacted by the South Devon Railway Trust for assistance in restoring a 1950’s railway coach, a coach that was once used for testing the Euro Tunnel. With many of the Staff and Directors of New World Timber having fond memories of visiting the seven mile former Great Western Railway branch line as children, and more recently with their own children we were happy to assist.

Built in 1872, the line runs along the stunning valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. The charity runs steam trains with heritage rolling stock and offers a wonderful all day, all weather attraction for families and people of all ages.

New World Timber are privileged to have part sponsored the restoration by supplying high quality Oak Veneered Boards to the trust. The finished railway coach looks superb, well done to the team at South Devon Railways for the effort and expertise in ensuring this type of Historical coach can be viewed by future generations.
